To replace the oxygen sensors on your own, you’ll need a jack and jack stands, an oxygen sensor socket or appropriately sized open-end wrench, an OBD II scan tool, and the replacement oxygen sensors.

Before doing anything, connect the OBD II scan to the vehicle and read the displayed codes to determine which specific oxygen sensors have failed and need to be replaced.

Once you know where the problem is, raise the vehicle on the side that will allow you access to the sensor and secure it using the jack stands.

Identify the damaged oxygen sensor and disconnect the wiring harness connector. Using an oxygen sensor socket or open-end wrench, loosen and remove the oxygen sensor. Compare the original and replacement oxygen sensors to ensure the correct fitment.

Install the replacement oxygen sensor and connect the wiring harness connector. Once the new sensor has been installed and secured, reconnect the OBD II scan tool and clear the codes. Start the vehicle and monitor your dash to see that the check engine light is no longer on.
